This important excerpt is take from the A General Overview to the Present. Out of this writer’s childhood, this fact is quite unusual and unique. Sleep deprivation can have affect cognition, behavior, functioning. For a child to undergo continuously more than 30 hours of sleep deprivation to reseach the affects by way of EEG monitoring for brain reseach, is found in literature on psychiatric mistreatment.
Sleep Deprivation Study as a 5th Grader: In 1977 the parents of this writer (a child at the time) were offered to have their son participate in brain research study at a major US medical center, by a psychiatrist who was an associate of someone close to the family. The pretext was to ‘maybe find the reasons’ for reading difficulty as a young child. The family was instructed to not allow the 5th grader to sleep for one complete night, and family members were instructed to take turns throughout the night to make sure that no sleep, not even a doze occurred. Snacks and late night TV, some reading books from the library were to occupy the sleepless night. On hour drive to the medical center this writer remembers his mother making sure that even a second of sleep did not occur. By the time we reached the testing room, this writer as a 5th grader had more than 30 hours of sleeplessness. Connected to an EEG with wires, offered for hours of testing, and sleep. If they needed the 5th grader to be sleeping during the EEG brain study, the parents could have gotten a hotel and the 5th grader, this writer, could have been taken to the study facility during the night. It is now certain that this was a study to see the affects of more than 30 hours of continuous sleep deprivation on a child’s brain by monitoring the brain with EEG. Remote EEG monitoring of a child’s brain was done in 1969, by the noted brain researcher Dr. Ross Adey (pg. 114, C. A. Ross , CIA Doctors) to experiment on the transmission of EEG monitoring by way of radio reception and telephone. That experiment used a 10 year old, with US Air Force and Public Health Services funding (pg. 114, C. A. Ross , CIA Doctors). This is noted to demonstrate the use of children in funding for brain research, and this example is by far seemingly harmless compared to the administering of LSD to children as young as 6 (Ross, pg. 81, CIA Doctors). This writer as a child in the 5th grade was deprived of sleep for more than 30 hours continuously, in preperation for EEG monitoring at a major medical center in 1977. There could have been only one goal in such a study. Present day investigation concerning this has not yet been done. The single paper (mailed results) regarding this study is with another family member, and has been confirmed, retreval has not yet been sought.
Sleep deprivation studies, even performed on unwittingly children, were certainly not out of step with CIA funded research throughout the 1970s, and sleep deprivation features widely in Freedom of Information Act released documents that make up Colin A. Ross’s expose on American doctors, institutions. After reading CIA Doctors, the reader will realize that psychological and psychiatric studies funded by CIA money were more than the isolated cases that have made it to some notoriety. Extensive networks that included the National Institute of Health, major universities, and hospitals in general throughout North America existed (5. C.A Ross, CIA Doctors, 2006).
The psychiatrist who offered stated that his friend was doing a research study; it seemed that he was simply soliciting for participants through people he knew or worked with. The test results simple and one page, and ‘normal’. Participation in the study was free. Nothing was said about what sort of research was being done. It was as if we all seemed to be less informed than a trip to the dentist regarding the testing. It should be known that as early as the 1960s EEG studies as well as radio frequency brain studies were being conducted by medical institutions paid for by CIA money (footnote this page 1.; also see Military and Neuroscience page on this blog).
Footnotes
- Studies using the EEG by CIA funded doctors is evident in FOIA documents and the more than numerous citations in books such as Colin A. Ross, CIA Doctors (http://www.rossinst.com/cia_doctors.html). Also, a measure of the incredible capabilities reported today, might be gathered by looking what uses of these technologies experimenters were engaged in decades ago. J. F. Schapitz, in 1974, did a study with volunteers. The study involved using modulated microwaves to send signals to the brains of human subjects. Sending hypnotic suggestions undetectable by the individual subject, in conjunction with environmental, or external cues; recording brainwaves of a subject who had been put into a drugged state, and sending the very same signals into an different individual not under any drug influence, were just two of a series of experiments by the researcher. (See R. O. Becker, pg.321). In his book, Robert Becker states that as early as the 1960s, the CIA provided funding for research into remote influence of human cognition, consciousness, and behavior, by way of electromagnetic fields, EMR, modulated microwave, and extremely low frequency, or ELF. It is possible that as early as the 1970s, by way of radar and satellite, the military, and the CIA, had capabilities to subject, unwittingly, humans in daily life, to the technologies here in referred to, namely, what has been denoted in recent decades as non-lethal weaponry, but more specifically, technologies aimed at neurophysiologic interference, influence, and control .
